Banaue Lodge Competition

Banaue Lodge: Architecture Competition | The majestic Banaue Rice Terraces, a unique landscape shaped by the hand of man over the centuries and home to the Ifugao community, today has become one of the favourite destinations of thousands of backpackers in search of an authentic adventure.

With the idea of promoting a kind of slow and sustainable tourism, capable not only of respecting local traditions but also of guaranteeing care for the environment, this competition aims at imagining a whole new design of lodging that fits perfectly into this amazing context.

Participants are therefore asked to envision creative proposals focused on a unique and functional type of structure capable of redefining accommodation options for hikers. The essence of the “Banaue Lodge” contest lies in its emphasis on harmonising architectural design with the breath-taking beauty of this UNESCO Site.

F.A.Q. Frequently Asked Questions

Is it compulsory to provide a common toilet/shower facility for all the guests or can they have individual toilet facilities in the cabins?
In general the brief states that there should be a common bathroom for the use of all guests (its dimension, number of wc/showers/sink, the precise location and how it will be displayed, depends on your own design). Since the project should be essential, the idea is that common facilities are useful for all guests. If you design separate units within the plot, you may propose something very minimal like a sink to wash your hands on each room but it is not strictly required. Make sure any decision is justified by the concept behind your project.

Is there any particular site boundary offset to be provided?
The project can be placed anywhere within the project area indicated in the dwg file.

Are there any specific regulations such as height limitation, building coverage ratio, floor area ratio that I should consider?
No, there are no specific regulations. Since it is an ideas competition you may concentrate on the concept and not on any particular regulation. Feel free to be creative!

How big is the project area in sqm?
The total project area is 411 sqm according to the dwg drawing from the Download Package. Please note that the dwg file is a rough/approximative drawing as there are no precise topographical details of the site. Participants have complete freedom to slightly modify the base drawing if they consider it strictly necessary.

Where can I find my “Order Number”?
The “Order Number” (ex. 12345) will be available after complete your registration. In addition will be sent also at your email address.

Who can participate in the competition?
The competition is open to students, architects, designers, urbanists, engineers, artists, makers, activists and anyone interested in the architectural design.

Is it possible to participate in a team?
Participants can join the competition either individually or with a team and there is no restriction or limit in the number of members that can compose a team.

Why registration fees?
Registration fees are used to cover the running costs of the competition and to improve customer care services. The registration fees cover taxes, web services, database services and everything related to computer security and the processing of personal data. Registration fees allow us to organize new initiatives to promote creativity and to feed the debate on present and future issues regarding climate change, natural-based solutions and social engagement.

Can I enrol to the competition with my Company or Firm?
Yes, you can participate with your Company. To issue your invoice, we ask you to provide your Tax identification number or your VAT Number on the registration procedure. If your Company is based in Europe, we should verify the correctness of your VAT number via the EU Tax authorities (VIES VAT number validation).

How do I register a team?
During the registration we only need the personal data of the group leader. The other team members will be indicated in the final submission package at the end of the competition. You will find all the instructions after registering.

Are there any restrictions on the nationality of the participants?
Teams can be composed by members of different nationalities and there are no restrictions about country of residence.

I didn’t receive the confirmation email. Is there a way to check if everything has been uploaded properly?
If you have not received your receipt please check the spam or junk folder of your e-mail account. For any inquiry, please contact us at: info@terravivacompetition.com
