RURAL HOUSING II – ARCHITECTURE COMPETITION
Rural Housing II challenges participants to transform the former Stable of Cascina Maestà, a historic farmhouse still active in the countryside of Pavia, into two contemporary duplex homes.
As one of the last unused buildings within the complex, the Stable offers a unique opportunity to complete the rehabilitation of this remarkable rural ensemble while preserving the identity of one of Lombardy’s most characteristic architectural typologies.
Through a sensitive adaptive reuse intervention, participants are invited to rethink the existing volume as two generous family dwellings, carefully responding to the building’s orientation, its relationship with the historic aia and the surrounding agricultural landscape.
Beyond the required programme, designers are encouraged to enrich each home with additional functions and contemporary living solutions, transforming an authentic piece of Italian rural heritage into an inspiring example of modern countryside living.
